Bas Walker joined the Trust in 2019 and was recruited from Volunteer Kāpiti, providing valuable assistance on governance and administrative tasks.
Bas gained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University in 1970. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) and a former Past President of the organisation.
He was the founding Chief Executive of ERMA New Zealand (the Environmental Risk Management Authority) and the Chief Executive, Ministry of Research, Science and Technology as well as holding a number of senior management positions in science-related organisations.
In a lengthy and prestigious career Bas has managed and undertaken a wide range of independent consultancies. He is now retired and he and his wife Pen dive their time between their beach house in Paekākāriki and apartment in Wellington.
Bas resigned from the Trust in 2022 due to ill-health.
