Kapiti US Marines Trust members and friends were delighted and grateful to host a visit by Rachel Scott, archaeologist with History Flight this past weekend. Rachel works with an extraordinary team to research, recover and repatriate the remains of US Marines from Kirabati, (Betio Island) in the Pacific where the devastating battle of Tawara was fought. Rachel was able to learn more about the sites and experiences that Marines had experienced in New Zealand prior to leaving for the battle and she gave an excellent presentation for trustees and friends of the trust. Please go to History Flight's website to learn more of the amazing story of recovery and honour for US Marines who if it were not for their work would remain 'unrecoverable'.
